About Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV)
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas were established under the National Policy on Education (1986) to provide quality modern education to talented children, especially those belonging to rural areas. These fully residential, co-educational schools are funded by the Government of India and administered by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education.

Eligibility Criteria for Assam JNV Admission 2027
Candidates must satisfy all eligibility conditions prescribed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti before applying.
1. District Eligibility
Generally, candidates can apply only for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya situated in the district where they are bona fide residents and are currently studying in Class V. Certain exceptional cases involving neighbouring districts are considered according to NVS admission guidelines.
2. Age Limit
Applicants must have been born between 1 May 2015 and 31 July 2017 (both dates inclusive).
The age criteria are applicable to all categories, including:
- General
- OBC
- SC
- ST
- EWS
3. Educational Qualification
Candidates must be studying in Class V during the academic session 2026–2027 in any of the following institutions located in the same district where admission is sought:
- Government School
- Government-aided School
- Government-recognised School
- National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) ‘B’ Certificate Competency Course
4. Number of Attempts
A candidate is permitted to appear for the JNV Selection Test only once. Reappearing in the examination is not allowed under any circumstances.
Rural Reservation
To ensure equitable educational opportunities, at least 75% of the available seats in every district are reserved for students from rural areas.
Candidates claiming admission under the rural quota must have:
- Studied Classes III, IV and V in Government, Government-aided or Government-recognised schools located in rural areas.
- Completed the entire academic session of Class V in a rural school situated in the same district for which admission is being sought.
The remaining seats are filled on merit from both rural and urban candidates according to the reservation policy of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
